Automated Backups: Protecting Your Server Data
Learn how to schedule automated daily backups and restore your server files instantly in case of a crash or map corruption.
Data loss is a server owner's worst nightmare. A corrupted chunk in Minecraft or a broken database on a FiveM server can ruin months of progress. That's why GameSphere includes a powerful, off-site backup system.
Creating a Manual Backup
Before installing a major modpack or updating your server version, you should always create a manual backup:
- Navigate to the Backups tab in your server control panel.
- Click Create Backup.
- Give it a memorable name (e.g., "Pre-Update 1.20").
- Optionally, select Ignored Files. For example, ignoring the
plugins/dynmapfolder will drastically reduce backup size and time.
Scheduling Automated Backups
You don't want to rely on remembering to click a button. You can automate this process:
- Go to the Schedules tab.
- Create a new schedule to run daily at 4:00 AM (when player count is lowest).
- Add a new Task to the schedule. Set the action to Create Backup.
Note: Based on your plan, you have a limited number of backup slots (usually 3 to 5). Older backups are automatically rotated out.
Restoring a Backup
If disaster strikes, go to the Backups tab, click the three dots next to the backup you want, and hit Restore. The panel will safely stop your server, wipe the current files, extract the backup, and restart.
